CONCEPT
From the precedents, I have created a conceptual drawing to be the basis of my project. In the drawing, I have included several key part that will be the foundation of the building.
The central walkway serves as the main congregation point of the building where from there, users can then move into the spaces in their desired destination into the building. By doing this , it allows the design to have an anchor point which the spaces in the building is referred to.It also helps greatly with light penetration into the building.A great reference for this is a building that I have looked at which is the IT University Coppenhagen.
KEY PART (CENTRAL WALKWAY)
KEY PART (FRAME)
I intend to frame the view in the main atrium. To do so I have decided to create "towers" that act as the frame in the building.
Another key element of the design is the distribution of spaces between the formal space and informal spaces. As to condone to this concept, I have decided to create two part of the building in terms of design and also material choices.
KEY PART (FORMAL INFORMAL)
The image sought to show how the central atrium/ pathway would work and the relationship between the spaces.
(Left)The central atrium in the IT Building acts as the main entranceway into the building and also allowing light into the building. (Right) A diagramatic model showing how the atrium sits in the building coloured blue.
Sketches showing the moments inside the building that I wanted to create
In the building , I wanted to create an interaction between the formal spaces i.e. library and classes with the more informal spaces i.e cafes. This is done to promote people interaction which also helps with the exchange of knowledge in which I wanted to achieve. To emphasize the informality of the spaces, I also wanted to create seating areas in between these major spaces allowing people to sit and relax inbetween their journey to one place to another.
Required space
Cafe : Act as the main attraction to the main street front
Library: I decided to add a library as to emphasize on the formal learning but also to replace the old Hulme library
Classrooms: The most important space where the learning take place
Workshop: A place for life skills learning
Art studio: I decided to add an art studio to host classes for the people.
Services(stairs , toilets, risers)

PROXIMITY DIAGRAM/ SPACES
I started to list out the spaces that I would need in my building and making a proximity diagram out of them to show the relationship between one space to another.
