STRUCTURAL STRATEGY

As for the structural strategy, I consulted a structural engineer to find the best method to build my building. The main thing that concerns me is the push and pull part of the building where the walls are not in a straight line on both of the floors. This makes it hard to create the structure using a standard concrete beam and columns.

The north wing of the building is main using reinforced concrete to support it. There will be not much concrete columns as the walls also act as a structural wall therefore allowing me to create more space in the northwing.

The wooden beams that make up the atrium is predominently supported by the rest of the building as it is either riveted to the wall or supported on the floor slabs.

The south building is similar to the north wing as it uses concrete as its primary material. By doing this, the walls in this part of the building also as act a supporting structures creating a monolithic feel to the building.

Different from the North and South Wing, the west wing utilizes the usage of steel frames to allow me to create the push and pull effect on the outer wall.

On the surrounding edge of the West Wing, I decided to use concrete walls to act as a bracing for the steel frame. To increase its stability, the service core is made entirely out of concrete.
