MASTERPLAN

Throughout the year, several key places has been influencing my project in a great way be it the initial starting point up until the refining of my project

 Z-ARTS

-In the beginnning of the year, I did some research into community based projects in Hulme and Z arts was a great example on how the community came together to produce a result

Hulme Library/ Adult Learning centre

-Presently closed , the library and the adult learning centre was one of the main reasons I decided to re-introduce a knowledge hub back into Hulme that is accesible to all.

Hulme Community Garden Centre

-The community garden intrigue me in a way that they able to manage an institution without any government funding which I aim to produce in my project.

Birley Field's Campus

-recently finishedl, the introduction of the campus in Hulme brought more students and young professionals into Hulme greatly increasing the number of that age group in Hulme

- it is a main influence as it is located adjacent to the site.

MMU Campus

- Another university institution that is located near Hulme but somehow only a handful of people are able to access any amenities provided .

It can be seen from the masterplan that there is a clear distinction between the university area and the residential area which I call the residential circle.

In these residential circle are where the number of student houses are the highest as it is located near the university areas.

THE SITE / IMMEDIATE CONTEXT

St. Philip C of E Primary School

Hulme Bridge , an iconic landmark of new Hulme.

I tried to utilise this by creating views inside my building looking towards the bridge which shapes the building further

Student housing facing Streford Road

Birley Field's Main Building

Connection path between padestrian walkway and the Redbricks

Padestrian walkway ; slightly slops down

Reilly Street - My main influence in creating the building where I continue the line of the road into the site

Princess Parkway ; source of possible noise pollution and air pollution due to the high number of vehicles present.

Stretford Road-One of the main connection of Hulme to Oxford Road.

Major roads- quite busy

Smaller roads- less busy

The plan shows the immediate context of the site which greatly influence my building in terms of its design and also its programme. The site itself is located between two major roads which places it in one of the busiest intersection in Hulme. This creates oppurtunities in terms of the target demographic where its easier to promote the building as it is near the main roads.
