LEARN

To embody the idea that I have before, we must first look into the core of the issues that arises; learning.

FORMAL

INFORMAL

In learning , there are two major ways to gain knowledge. One is through our daily lives which I would call informal learning and the other through structured knowledge known as formal learning

Formal learning includes joining classes and doing research. This type of learning usually have a specific institution in order to spread the knowledge being tought. This is what people usually thought of when we say learn.

Informal learning is more about the things we gained through our own experience in our daily life talking and observing as we go about our daily life. This type of learning is usually unconciously done by people.

CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT/ INSIDE

As I am trying to create a learning space, I would need to know where do people learn. By doing this it sets a guidline for me to search for my precedents

Formal learning usually takes place inside a controlled environ where usually there is an institute that governs the place. This is because it allows for a focused type of teaching and learning.

Informal learning on the other hand can happen anywhere be it inside or outside. It is usually in a place where it is not confined and dictated by rules i.e cafe or market.

UNCONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT/OUTSIDE

Informal learning is always preferrable for its atmosphere that is relaxed Hence the reasoning for me to informalise the formalise learning. This however does not mean I am bringing the classroom outside nor am I claiming the abolishment of formalise learning.

OUTSIDE

What I want to create is formal learning spaces that is included in an informal setting that helps to break down the tense and rigid atmosphere of a formal learning space i.e schools.

The diagrams shows how I intent to arrange my spaces in the building where the informal and formal spaces are intertwined with one another blurring the line between them.

PROGRAMME

Moving from my research I have decided to create a Knowledge Market . Here, instead of exchange of money for items, they would be exchanging it for knowledge instead.

People could be coming in and trade their skills for the knowledge there and vice versa

I also wanted to create a building where exchange of idea can occur

To better facilitate the people, I also decided to add a low cost housing scheme.
